The Best Ramen in Sydney

Japanese food is my favourite cuisine and ramen is quite possibly my favourite meal of all time. On my last trip to Tokyo, I had ramen at least once a day, and that is where my obsession began. Since I haven’t visited Japan recently, I’ve been on the hunt for the best ramen in Sydney. Here are some of my top finds so far.

Ra Ra Ramen

With locations in Redfern, Randwick, and Eveleigh, Ra Ra Ramen is one of my favourite spots for a delicious bowl of ramen.

With hand-crafted noodles that are cooked to perfection, a rich and creamy tonkotsu broth, slightly runny egg, and pork chasu that just melts in your mouth, this place ticks all the boxes. Ra Ra Ramen caters to all different dietary requirements, including vegan options.

Also on the menu are a selection of sides like pork gyozas, chicken karaage, and Japanese pickles, plus a wide range of Japanese drinks. They even import their Asahi beer straight from Japan!

Kosuke Ramen

This restaurant in Newington is a must-visit if you are in the area. Kosuke is run by just one Japanese chef (named Kosuke) who makes up to 125 bowls of ramen every day. He has owned multiple ramen shops in both Tokyo and Sydney, hand-crafting noodles his whole life.

The menu is huge, with over 30 different options to choose from. You can fully customise your meal and choose the thickness and saltiness of the broth, the texture of the noodles, the flavour oil, and the toppings.

Please note this place doesn’t take reservations and has limited seating so you may need to line up. However, it is definitely worth the wait.

Sushi Glory

Sushi Glory in Wentworth Point is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Sydney for a wide variety of dishes like sushi and sashimi, noodles, Japanese curries, Teishoku, and tempura.

There are a few different ramen options on the menu, but the Donkotsu Chasu here is a winner for me. The chasu pork melts in the mouth, and the slightly salty pork shoyu base is delicious. If you’re like me and prefer your noodles a little firmer, you’ll love the way Sushi Glory cooks their noodles. Firm but not too chewy.

Every meal I have had here is consistently good, and I definitely recommend popping this restaurant on your list.

Ippudo

Ippudo is a ramen chain that was originally founded in Japan. the chain now has locations worldwide including 4 restaurants in Sydney.

I visited the Sydney Westfield restaurant and tried the Shiromaru Classic ramen. It comes with tonkotsu broth, pork loin chasu, black fungus, bean sprouts, and a half egg. The broth was really tasty and noodles were cooked perfectly. The best part was the egg, slightly runny with a salty taste from the pork broth.

The pork was a little tough compared to other ramen places I’ve tried but still had plenty of flavour. I will definitely be visiting again to try more items on the menu.

What is your favourite ramen restaurant in Sydney? I am always on the hunt for new Japanese places to try. Let me know your recommendations!
